SWACUHO-U: New Professional’s Success Workshop

Originally founded by Nancy Murphy-Chadwick in 1980 at Texas Woman’s University; SWACUHO-U has evolved from a one day drive in workshop focused on supervisory skills to become a two day new professional success workshop.

SWACUHO-U provides a selective mentor/cohort based professional development experience for professionals with two years or less full-time experience. Participants engage with peers and experienced successful colleagues to gain skills and competencies needed to be successful as they grown in the profession. Each year the SWACUHO Professional Development Committee selects focus topics, connected with the ACUHOI Competencies, intended to support new professional success. Topics will change based on feedback from participants and the evolving needs of the region and profession.

The 2018 SWACUHO-U New Professionals Success Workshop focus topics:

·         How to manage up

·         Budgeting 101

·         Advocacy vs employment

·         Risk Management / Legal Issues in Higher Ed

·         Supervision
